In 2011 the pharmaceutical company Bayer launched a new blood thinner drug called Xarelto. The company claimed that Xarelto was proven to reduce stroke risk in patients with AFib not caused by a heart valve problem.
The company claimed Xarelto was the first and only "once a day" blood thinner that eliminated the monthly trip to the clinic for blood tests.
The company claimed patients would not be tied to that monitoring routine.
The makers and marketers of XARELTO failed to warn consumers, healthcare professionals and the public:
a. Of the serious and significant risk of serious, severe and irreversible bleeding complications;
b. That in the event of a bleeding complication, there is no antidote to reverse it; and
c. That people taking XARELTO should closely and frequently monitor their blood;
